Muhlenberg Magazine - WMUH 75th Anniversary Feature

This is one of the features for the Muhlenberg Magazine Fall 2023 issue called “75 Years of the Only Station that Matters.” The story is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the college’s radio station WMUH including stories from alumni, how the station impacts the student experience, and success stories. The radio tower was artwork created by an illustrator who also DJ’s for the station and creates some of their merchandise. I took that image and used it as inspiration for the rest of the feature. After creating the cover by manipulating the illustration and adding a speckled background alluding to static, I tied to the opening spread, creating a ripple effect of black and white rings representing the radio waves. I carried that motif throughout the feature, using it to frame photos and duplicating the thunderbolt in various places. I also gave the feature a comic book like quality with the use of type and strong black lines to represent the often cartoon like and whimsical personality that is present at the station.
