Narrative Books
Armed with word lists, I was tasked to create new narratives and the books to go with those narratives. This process helped me to reconnect with the fine art of design as I made it a point to create my books by hand. I created one book out of adjectives that was green and progressively grew to different shades of yellow. Once assembled I cut the holes free hand to grow progressively smaller and allow the colors to show through to each page. Another narrative was told without words and became a book of discovery, traveling through a landscape on a visual journey. Each piece was hand cut and assembled. The clear book is a reversal of the idea of a book. It is unable to be read open and only readable while closed. Selecting the word whole, I played with its meaning and an avocado since it has a hole in it, and created typography with the fruit by hand carving it.
